Car stickers depicting the driver's family and the sports or extra-curricular activities they are interested in have become an increasingly popular trend. These vinyl decals are so popular they compelled a professor at Griffith University - located in Australia - to conduct a study to gain information on the demographics of tourists and locals in different areas of the country.
In two separate experiments, the studies recorded the number of times certain stickers appeared on the backs of vehicles and cross-referenced their occurrences with the license plate of the vehicle. Were locals more likely to have surfing-related stickers or were tourists? Did cars from different parts of Australia trend toward a particular type of sticker? The results found that these "my family" stickers were indeed relevant for gaining demographic insights.
